Meet Herbie

You may have seen our little electric car out and about?

Herbie always brings a smile to people’s faces, and we never tire from being asked where we fit the ladders and scaffolding tubes!

Just so you know. Herbie is used for visiting our customers when we’re providing no obligation quotes, surveys or consultations.

Aside from promotion and parking in small spaces, Herbie plays an important role in Up Top Roofing & Scaffolding’s commitment to being environmentally friendly wherever possible.

The idea to add an electric car to our fleet came after we attended a commercial vehicle show and learned about government targets to switch to electric vehicles.

Why we chose electric

We were conscious about reducing our carbon footprint and decided to take our first baby steps with Herbie!

The little car now lives at home in our yard in Lytchett and has a top speed of 30mph.

In fact, we’re always looking at effective ways to invest in new greener technology. Future plans could include adopting hydrogen powered lorries for our fleet, which is something we’re excited about.

While we don’t have a Clean Air Zone in the BCP area yet, many of our vehicles are already emission compliant with Euro 6 engines.

It’s part of our environmental strategy that includes greener vehicles right through to our waste management.

Looking ahead

Did you know recycling is a huge part of what we do? We have a dedicated reclamation yard on site with over 50,000 roof tiles that can be used again on future jobs.

This not only saves on landfill, but it also reduces fuel and road transport of materials.

Any non-reusable tiles are separated out and reused as rubble aggregate.

Other important environmental areas for Up Top Roofing & Scaffolding are the support of renewable power sources such as solar energy. While we don’t install it, we work closely with solar energy providers by creating the scaffolding and perfect roofs needed to accommodate solar PV cells.

Please get in touch if you’d like more information about our scaffolding and roofing services, and you might get a chance to meet Herbie.
