A carefully planned roofing project built around the property, location and brief.
Challenge
This high quality coastal property needed a roof covering and detail package that would respect the building's character while standing up to exposed Swanage weather. The varied roof geometry, chimney abutments, gullies and changes in pitch required careful planning so the finished slate courses, leadwork and drainage details would work together cleanly.
Solution
Up Top Roofing installed Spanish ESCO 100 natural slate for its refined appearance, durability and suitability for the coastal setting. Traditional lead mop roll tops were formed to protect key roof junctions and retain the property's character, while selected gullies were completed with Alwitra to provide reliable modern water management in the most demanding areas.

A controlled roof replacement from strip-out to final detailing.

Surveyed the roof layout and planned the slate, leadwork and gully details around the property's complex geometry.

Prepared the roof slopes and set out the Spanish ESCO 100 natural slate to maintain consistent gauge, alignment and headlap.

Installed the natural slate across the main roof and adjoining pitched sections with careful finishing at hips, abutments and chimney details.

Formed traditional lead mop roll tops to give vulnerable junctions durable weather protection and a crisp period-appropriate finish.

Integrated Alwitra into selected gully areas to improve long-term drainage and water management.

Inspected the completed roof from the scaffold and by drone before final handover to Inwood Design.
