Christmas tree collections

Everyone loves a real Christmas tree, but responsibly disposing of them after Christmas can be a festive nightmare. Who wants a car full of pine needles!

It’s why we’ve teamed up with our favourite local children’s hospice charity, Julia’s House, to take part in their annual Christmas Tree recycling scheme.

Now in its fourth year, the charity collected and recycled around 2,090 trees from last Christmas, raising an amazing £17,232 in donations from people whose trees were collected, helping the charity continue to provide its specialist care for local seriously ill children and their families across Dorset and Wiltshire.

The Up Top Roofing & Scaffolding team jumped in the vans to join a fantastic team of volunteers from local business and community groups for Christmas tree collections between 9th and 11th January 2025 from homes across Dorset, in postcode areas BH1 through to BH23 and BH31.

Supporting Julia's House

For those that signed up, there was an option to make a suggested donation of £10 to support the charity’s lifeline of care for local families – the charity receives no other income from this service, only donations from people who have had their tree collected.

We then helped transport the real trees to Adventure Pirate in Lytchett Minster and ECO Sustainable Solutions in near Bournemouth Airport where they will be recycled as chippings for use on local farms and community spaces.

Guy Moore, director of Up Top Roofing & Scaffolding, said: “After the success of our charity Christmas light installation service in aid of Julia’s House, we’re delighted to further support them with their fantastic Christmas tree recycling scheme while making a positive environmental impact. Up Top Roofing & Scaffolding will continue to back Julia’s House in any way possible so that they can continue to deliver the invaluable care and support to children.

Local recycling impact

Katie Thompson, from the fundraising team at Julia’s House, said, “Our Christmas tree recycling scheme has become one of the highlights of our fundraising calendar. We receive such great support from our volunteer team of collectors and the public are just so generous with their donations – it feels good to be providing a helpful service to the local community too.

“It’s not always easy to dispose of your Christmas tree once the baubles have been taken down, so we’re happy to step in and help and in turn the public’s generosity is helping the families we support. A donation of £10 or £20 can help us buy arts and crafts materials for a fun creative play session or storybooks for a relaxing hospice sleepover for the children.”

Julia’s House provides specialist care for seriously ill children and their families across Wiltshire and Dorset, and the charity receives no other income from this service except donations.
